Frankfurt Germany Mission #4

Hallo lieblich Leute! It is so incredibly crazy that I am coming up on my 5th week in the MTC, and will be leaving for Germany in just 2 weeks. It's been going by so fast, and my mom keeps saying how she hopes that the rest of the 2 years of my mission goes by that fast too haha. This week wasn't too crazy, but to be fair my standards for being busy have been raised by my MTC haha. My German has been going pretty well, but I am especially proud of how far my accent has come (you shouldn't have complimented me Elder Hoopes cause now it'll go to my head haha). For the past couple days we have been playing "Muttersprachler" which means "Native Speaker". Before each class our district chooses one of us to be the Native Speaker, and we aren't allowed to speak any english for the entire 3 hour class. However, the teachers have to guess who the native speaker was at the end of class, so in order to "protect" the native speaker, all of us only ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #2

Hallo meine wunderbares Familie und Freunden! Week 2 of my MTC training is over! It's crazy how fast it is already going by. This week was really crazy because I was always doing something, and when I wasn't, I was usually falling asleep on the couch in my full shirt and tie (oops). It's crazy how exhausting being on the computer all day can be even though I'm not really moving much.  This week was especially exhausting language-wise because we are starting to really dig deep into German. Although I had some experience in German from high school (thanks Frau Montalbine), the intricacies of German grammar are pretty different from English, so it takes a lot of brain power for me to speak in German with flawless grammar (there's more than 1 comma in a German sentence, you're in for a rough ride). Something that I have always struggled with is that a lot of the time German verbs are at the end of the sentence, so if you mess up in the middle of your sentence or sto...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #1

Hey Everyone! This is my first email out to everyone! I just started my MTC "virtual" training this past Wednesday, and despite being in a chair all day, it's exhausting (I know how my dad feels "working" at home all day now). I'm on the computer for about 8 hours a day, most of it being zoom classes. However, I've already learned so much. I didn't expect my German classes to go so fast! In fact, we are already learning stuff (just 4 days in) that I didn't learn until my second year of German in high school. I guess it makes sense though considering I only have 6 weeks to become somewhat competent in it haha. What I found crazy is that almost everyone in my district (the 9 other people I have all my classes with) has experience with German in high school except for 3 or so people.  There is one girl in my district, Sister Freestone, who has had NO experience with German whatsoever, but she has had experience with Arabic. When BrĂ¼der Adams (one of...
