Pushups, Flub, And Goliath

Hallo liebe Leute!   Another week is over! Man, time is flying by fast!   On Saturday we had a stake sport activity in Friedrichsdorf (it was also combined with the Friedrichsdorf stake) and it was so much fun! We brought Shuheng along with us and we all had a great time together. It was almost 100 degrees but it was pretty breezy so it actually wasn't too bad. We played volleyball for a while and although I never thought I was THAT bad at volleyball, lemme tell ya, Elder Madsen, who is one of the senior missionaries and is probably about 75 or so, really showed me up. He was diving left and right and when he hit the ball, it went exactly where he wanted it to go. He took it upon himself to be my coach, and I learned a lot from him, including the fact that I need to do more pushups.    Anyways it was awesome, and Shuheng got to know a ton of people in the stake who speak Chinese, so that was great for him and he was really excited. It is so cool to see him become int...

Denglish, RIP Mittens, And Baptism By Fire (Literally)

Hallo liebe Leute!    What a busy week! Although we were pretty busy I can't think of anything to write about. Well Darmstadt has been awesome so far. There are tons of young people here and the ward has lots of activities. On Sunday we had a devotional with the bishop and the young adults, and I had the chance to get to know all them which was a lot of fun. They all speak pretty much perfect English, and a lot of times even when you speak German to them they will respond in English because they all say that they prefer talking in English, even between themselves because sometimes it's just quicker and easier than German. They will even be speaking in German and then just say a completely random English word in the middle #denglish (deutsch + english). My favorite line this week was from Janis who said when people come up to you on the street and ask if you've got a light (like for a cigarette, which happens surprisingly often), you say "Yeah I do. The light of Christ....

Fast Food For Royalty, So Soon? And Klingon

Hallo Alle! This has been a pretty crazy week!   On Friday we had an exchange with the Bonn Elders. I was with Elder Brough and we had a fun time talking to some cool people on the street while he sorta gave me a tour of the city. We stopped and talked to quite a few people, and surprisingly a lot of people actually were willing to talk, and a lot also wanted to stay in contact so that was nice! It's a really pretty city and there is a lot of history, which I love! We also went and got Five Guys that night (yes they have it in Germany), and although it tasted pretty good, I don't know if it was worth the small fortune that it cost. American food is a novelty here. Also why does literally everyone think we are employees no matter where we are? Not only do I get asked what time trains are going and leaving all the time at the train station, but we even got asked by a lady at Five Guys if she was allowed to use the bathroom. If you want to get in anywhere, all you have to do is wh...

ONE YEAR!

Image
Hallo Freunde und Familie!   I'm back. Today marks being on my mission for ONE YEAR! I will be home in a little less than a year and that is just crazy to me. I'm actually pretty proud that so far I think I have only missed one week sending an email. I'm not sure how I come up with stuff to talk about each week, but somehow I have.   In honor of being on my mission for a year, I thought I would quickly share what I have learned so far.   So far my mission has been the most incredible experience of my life. There is truly nothing else I could have done at this time in my life that would have been more rewarding than a mission. I still have a lot to learn, and A LOT of things that I need to improve, but I have already learned so much   1. God is real. I grew up in this church but everything I did was pretty much a habit and almost copying what my parents did. It was not until I came on my mission that I actually had to apply faith. When it came to that point, I realize...
