Frankfurt Germany Mission #8

Was geht ab meine Lieblingsleute? If you are reading this email first, don't. Go back to the #7 one I sent today. (Or you can read it out order, whatever makes you happy)  This past week has been awesome. We had so many cool experiences and it was really fun.  On Friday we met with one of our members, Benedikt, who is French but also speaks German and English. He is so nice  and even draws something for each new missionary (so did something for me too). We met at the Deutsch-Französiche Gartens which was really pretty, but I totally forgot to take any pictures so just go ahead and look it up haha. This week has also been the attack of the fruit flies. In Germany you separate your bio trash (food) from the rest, so it ends up attracting so many flies. Elder De Young (my comp) is like a fruit fly serial killer, and sometimes he will just spend like 20 minutes killing them in the kitchen. I think its time to tent and fumigate the apartment. Cool enough, missions were not all...

hallo Alle!! I forgot to send this email last week. I had it written out but I totally forgot to send it. So you will be blessed with two emails from me this week. Say thank you. (So stay tuned for my next email) I cannot believe that I have been in Germany for a week already. Being here in SaarbrĂĽcken has been such a good time. I have met so many awesome people. My comp Elder De Young is pretty great, but he's sending me a lot of mixed messages considering that we go on runs in the morning but on the way back we stop at a bakery to get the good stuff. Hopefully it cancels out and I'm not slowly putting on the German pounds. Im sure its a healthy habit. Anyways this past week has been pretty awesome. We have done a lot of street contacting which is a little scary at times but at the same time so fun just being able to talk people in a completely different language than the one I grew up speaking. Its funny how once in a while you get some people who are eager to talk to you (li...

I Made It!!!

Hallo Alles! I'm in Germany! After multiple delays on Monday, we finally were able to fly straight into Frankfurt. That same day we found out who our trainers would be and what area we would be assigned to. I was put with Elder De Young in SaarbrĂĽcken, but our area technically includes all of the German state of Saarland. Elder De Young is awesome (so far.... jkjk). He compliments my German wayyyyyyy too much, which is not good because sometimes compliments go straight to my head (something I'm working on...). Either way, he's great. I sorta regret telling people I play piano, because Elder De Young has already recruited me to play piano for church since that task has often fell on him. SaarbrĂĽcken is a pretty cool city. It's not your typical small-town picturesque German town, but it is so cool nonetheless. It borders France so most people here speak with a French-influenced accent so sometimes they like to just drop letters or sometimes replace "a" with ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #6

Hey momma, sorry I didn't get enough time to talk to you today, I just got my phone set up and we had a long service project today helping this really nice family cleaning their house in preparation to move (the mom is American and the german dad went to BYU, so thankfully they all spoke English haha). LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH, and I will call you next Thursday on P-day. If you could forward the paragraphs below to everyone that would be awesome (not this part obviously) If you log in to my missionary email you can find my list that I use for sending the email out to everyone. Dad or Makenna can help you haha. Love you so much Hallo Alles! I'm in Germany! After multiple delays on Monday, we finally were able to fly straight into Frankfurt. That same day we found out who our trainers would be and what area we would be assigned to. Your Missionary Has Arrived In Frankfurt!

Dear Brother & Sister Allan, We are happy to report that Elder Allan arrived safely in the Germany Frankfurt Mission. Sister Hammon and I met all the new missionaries at the Frankfurt airport, and your son looked good and was happy to be here. We are always grateful to have new missionaries come into the field as they bring a sense of excitement and a spirit of great faith. It inspires and energizes the whole mission. After their arrival in Frankfurt, the missionaries were transported to the Frankfurt Stake Center, where they completed paperwork so they could register and obtain their residency permits to stay in Germany. They also received their debit cards. This allows them to access their missionary support funds. They also learned about mission transportation and apartments. Later, Sister Hammon and I both spent some time getting acquainted with your son. I also took a few minutes to conduct a brief interview with him. He is a wonderful young man, and we are so grateful to have...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #5

Hallo allerseits! I finally got my flight plans, and I am out of here on Monday! I'm flying into Dallas, will meet up with some others from my MTC district going to Frankfurt, and then fly a 10 hour straight flight to Germany. It's sorta crazy that my MTC is already over, and in just a couple days I will be in Germany.  I had an awesome experience in the MTC, and had some of the best teachers (thanks Brother Adams, Sister Clark, Brother Schild, and Sister Colver for turning me into a German-speaking spiritual wizard). My district was so awesome and we had such an awesome time over the past 6 weeks. I definitely was so lucky to be put with so many awesome people and teachers, and I definitely would not be at the level I am now at spiritually, or with German, without them. Sure, sometimes they say I look like Vincent Crabbe from Harry Potter, but I am all about forgiveness, so we are all still best of friends... This past week I have learned a lot about the importance of making J...

Letter From Mom

My Dearest Landon, When you receive this letter, you will be in Frankfurt, Germany. I already miss you! Having just arrived at your mission and your new home for the next two years, I remember one morning when you were 7. We had just moved to Virginia, and I was upstairs sleeping. You were hungry and decided you were going to make your own breakfast. You ran up the stairs when you were finished and said, "Ok mom, I am ready to go on a mission, I can make my own breakfast." I remember that day like it was yesterday, and here it is 12 years later, and the time has come for you to depart on your mission. Time sure went by fast, and you have grown into such an incredible and amazing young man. I am so excited for you and this great journey that you are about to begin. I have loved watching you grow spiritually over the years, but especially over the last six weeks while doing home MTC. I am so grateful for the opportunity that you were able to do your MTC training at home. You co...

Letter From Dad

Elder Allan, Welcome to the motherland. I can't believe you have arrived. It seems like yesterday that you were opening your mission call. I already miss you, but I am excited for the opportunity you have in front of you. I've been so impressed with your diligence as you have spent the last 6 weeks learning the language, learning how to teach discussions, and studying the gospel. I never served a mission and it's one of my biggest regrets in life. I'm happy that you have made this decision to serve the Lord as a full-time missionary. I have no doubt that the experiences you have while serving the people of Germany will serve you well throughout life. I am so proud of you. I think about all my failures in life, and I cringe, but as I think about my successes, you and your sisters being the biggest of my successes, I feel happy inside. I like the adage "If you're not failing, you're not trying." Maybe this philosophy is something you can use as you are i...
