Tornadoes, Couch Potatoes, And Zootopia

Hallo alle! Was für eine Woche! This week was really awesome. Last Friday we took the long trek to the Werner's for dinner (all the way across the street). There was this big storm in Germany up north, but we got a bit of it so it was really windy that night. We were eating dinner at the Werner's and their windows were literally flexing when you went into the hallway it sounded like a horror movie the wind was so loud. We almost got blown away a couple times, but don't worry, we survived. Saturday was also really fun. We delivered a Book of Mormon to someone in the middle of nowhere who likes to sit down and talk with Jehovah Witnesses, but wanted to branch out a bit and talk with us. That night we also had a game night with some of the young adults in our ward and two of the Sisters' friends of the church. It was crazy fun! We played werewolf and it got really heated. They can all speak English because they served missions and learned then, so we mostly spoke english b...

Climbing Mt. Everest, German Lactose, And Jesus's Friends

Hallo Alle! This was another good week!   On Saturday we helped a couple in our ward move to a new apartment. Sorry I don't have any pictures from that, I am really bad at remembering to take pictures. I haven't done a good move in a while, so it was actually a lot of fun. Brother and Sister Kempkens lived on the third floor of one apartment building, and so we (along with thankfully 7 others) helped them get all their furniture and bookcases into their moving van. After playing tetris in the van packing everything, we realized we are going to be helping them unloading as well. We got with Brother Kempkens in the moving van, and he seemed really nervous and looked over at us and said "I've never driven something this big on streets so small". But don't worry everyone, we survived (mostly). So once we got to the new apartment we found out that they were moving into the fourth floor apartment. Let me tell you all, no math and latin teacher should live on the fou...

Hello And Goodbye, A Barbershop Devotional, And Becoming A Native

Hallo zusammen!   The weeks really are going by so fast. We had transfers again this week, and I am staying in Duisburg! Elder Breinholt is also staying, but Elder Hayward, who came in with the Ukrainian missionaries, left just after a week and a half. His first Sunday he introduced himself to the ward, and the next Sunday he said bye. It was sorta weird. I felt bad but everytime we would introduce him to a member the member would say (in German) "Oh I feel so bad, he can't understand anything we are saying right now!" And then they would chuckle a bit. Everyone prays for Elder Hayward so that he can learn German fast!!!!   This week we had quite a few member appointments which was really awesome. We went over to the Pabst family on Monday (our stake president and his family). Their kids are all so crazy, and I felt like a celebrity because two of them were fighting over who got to sit next to me at the dinner table. They are such an awesome family, and I have such respec...

Ukrainians, Plätzchen? And The Phone Call

Image
Hallöchen!   This week went by really fast (have I said that before?).   Well on Friday morning we got a call that we would be getting a new missionary that same day! Because of the situation with Russia and Ukraine, all the missionaries in Ukraine have been evacuated out and sent to new assignments. So we got a total of 12 new missionaries in our mission, and I honestly feel bad for them because some of them had a COVID reassignment in the US before Ukraine as well. After trying to learn a language like Ukrainian or Russian and just starting to sorta get comfortable, they now have to learn another new language. Elder Hayward is with us and he's awesome, but I honestly feel bad that he has to learn another language and culture on the fly with only 10 months left on the mission. But hey, it's possible!   We also suddenly started getting invited over by tons of members this week. We usually have 2 or so a week, but this week we have been over to visit a member almost everyd...
