Frankfurt Germany Mission #12

Hallo Alle, Welcome back to my adventures. This has been a pretty crazy week. Last Saturday morning Elder De Young and I got our transfer calls, and Elder De Young got transferred to Hamm in northern Germany. So now I have a new companion named Elder Jacobsen. Last Saturday we played frisbee, and we tried to get a group beforehand but not many people responded. We were playing with one other person, when we invited two people walking by to play with us. Then another guy showed up, and then 2 more people showed up, and then we had a whole game going. We met someone from Egypt, Korea, two from Pakistan (who we actually already knew). Its crazy how many cool people from all over the world I have been able to meet and talk about the Gospel with. We visited a nice lady in our ward, who is so supportive of missionary work and the missionaries, and she is incredible. Her husband is unfortunately close to passing away, and to see her strength is awe inspiring. She feeds him, moves him, and has...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #11

Hallo Alle! Sorry I didn't send out my own email last week, but Makenna did a better job anyways. As soon as I start to write these, everything just leaves my brain and I forget everything that I did for the past week. All I remember is that my body hurts and I'm tired, but thats a weekly occurrence, so nothing new. Besides that I am having an absolute blast. This past Saturday we had Elder De Youngs birthday. In the morning it was a pretty normal day, but then we went out to eat at this pizza place that I'm still convinced was Albanian, but apparently it wasn't. All I know is that it was cheap (only like 2-3 euros for like a mini pizza thing) and it tasted real good. Afterwards we went street contacting in normal people clothes (we are allowed to do that once a week), and it felt so weird. You would think it would've easier to talk to people dressed normally, but it was sctually a lot harder. Germans are very direct people so if you are beating around the bush, or ...

Hi everyone!  This is Landon's sister Makenna.:) Landon has been super busy these past few weeks and hasn't gotten a chance to sit down and write an email. So he asked me to send out an email to let everyone know what's been going on.  Last week Landon had the opportunity to go 2 hours north to the town of Ahrweiler which was affected by the floods. He loves service and was so grateful that he was able to participate in the clean-up. He said that he didn't know that he could love shoveling mud so much! The first picture below is of the hospital basement he was working in during the week. He said that you could see the line on the wall where the water hit. It was about 10 feet high! The second picture is of Landon and some other missionaries after a hard days work!:) He said that the locals called them minions because of their yellow shirts and blue overalls.  (Pictures 1-2) Landon also was able to go on splits( when the missionary goes with a new companion for the day) ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #9

Hallo jeder! This is gonna be real short cause I don't have much time. But essentially to update yall I've have been helping out with the floods here in Germany for this past week. We have been in Ahrweiler essentially shoveling mud, helping people get water out of their house and its crazy. Tuesday and yesterday we cleaned out a school and its basement which was filled with hundreds of gallons worth of mud and sludge. It is honestly so insane. Today we were cleaning out the lower level of a hospital and it looked straight out of a horror movie because it was so wrecked. You can see the water line around 10 feet above the ground on buildings. It has been almost 3 weeks since the flooding stopped, and there are still broken trees everywhere, peoples belongings in the street, and smashed cars strewn everywhere. It is so sad to see (especially when you see all these historical buildings essentially lost, and people who have lost everything) but it is such an incredible experience ...
