Frankfurt Germany Mission #1
Hey Everyone!
This is my first email out to everyone! I just started my MTC "virtual" training this past Wednesday, and despite being in a chair all day, it's exhausting (I know how my dad feels "working" at home all day now). I'm on the computer for about 8 hours a day, most of it being zoom classes. However, I've already learned so much. I didn't expect my German classes to go so fast! In fact, we are already learning stuff (just 4 days in) that I didn't learn until my second year of German in high school. I guess it makes sense though considering I only have 6 weeks to become somewhat competent in it haha. What I found crazy is that almost everyone in my district (the 9 other people I have all my classes with) has experience with German in high school except for 3 or so people.
There is one girl in my district, Sister Freestone, who has had NO experience with German whatsoever, but she has had experience with Arabic. When Brüder Adams (one of our instructors) heard this, he commented on how many Arabic speaking refugees and immigrants there are in Germany who don't speak much German or English. In fact, he said that probably half the people he taught were refugees or immigrants who spoke Arabic, and had very little English or German language capabilities. When Sister Freestone heard this she commented how when she heard most of us had experience with German in high school, she doubted her abilities and worth as a missionary serving in Germany. But upon realizing that her time learning Arabic would be of worth in Germany, she knew that she was there for a reason.
In just 4 days I've already learned how we all really do have a purpose and place in this life. As missionaries, me and my district were all assigned to Germany for a reason (especially Sister Freestone haha). In our lives, everything happens for a reason.
Before I end, I'm going to share a quick little something that I learned this week that really hit me hard. The "equation" to become more like Christ should not be "Me + More = Christlike", it should be "Me + Christ = More".
Feel free to email me whenever! And if you know anyone who wants to be on the email list just let me know and I can add them.
Love you all
