Caroling, Christmas, And Change

Image
Hallo Alle! Frohe Weihnachten!   Sorry I didn't get an email out last week (if you didn't notice, even better), but now I have more to talk about so get comfortable.   Last week was a lot of fun. On Tuesday we went caroling with our district in front of Bahnhof (train station), and it was a lot of fun but FREEZING cold. My fingers literally almost froze off, so we only did it for about 30 minutes. Because the COVID rules are getting a lot stricter, and you have to wear a mask even at some outside places, we were worried that we were going to get fined or stopped, so when a police van started circling us we were pretty nervous. I just imagined the news footage of the Polizei pulling up and throwing 6 missionaries singing Christmas carols into the van. As the police car came back around we thought they were going to tell us to stop, but they just rolled down their window and gave us a thumbs up, which was awesome. We got the stamp of approval.  Then on Wednesday we went car...

No Reciept, Gray Hair, And A Hallmark Movie

Servus!   This week was something else.    For starters, we had Zone Conference last Friday in Dortmund. It was a ton of fun because I got to see some friends, eat some good food, and of course learn a lot. Piet from our ward did the cooking, so he picked us up early in the morning and we drove with him to help him get started. Needless to say, it was a long day, but it reminded of how grateful to be where I am. We also did a white elephant gift exchange, and I got a dog toy and gummy bears???? I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it, and they didn't provide the receipt :(    Also someone the Sisters were meeting with, Kristi, got baptized! It was awesome to talk with her and hear her testimony. She loves the Gospel and is so excited to learn more and build an even stronger relationship with God.   We had somewhat of a stressful week just working with someone who is really struggling emotionally, so everybody keep us and this (unnamed) person in your prayers...

Attempted Murder, Octobahn, And Prayer!

Hallo Alle!   This week was another awesome week!    Christmas in Germany has just been getting better and better. Our members have been giving us so many sweets and food, I am starting to actually worry about my health. I feel as if they are literally trying to kill me with kindness (and sugar). One of my new favorite things here now are Stollenkonfekts, which are essentially mini cinnamon rolls (without cinnamon) with powdered sugar on top and marzipan and raisins in the middle. I think I'm addicted...   This week we went on splits and I went to Wuppertal with Elder Day, which was a lot of fun. Wuppertal is a really nice city, and we had dinner with two awesome returned missionaries from the Alpine Mission, one who is from Spain and another who is in Dortmund studying. They were so awesome, and experiences like those that make me so grateful that I am able to meet so many new and cool people on the mission. In Wuppertal they also have something called the Schwebeba...

Miracles, Chemical Fallout, And Computer Wizardy

Hallo Alle!   What an awesome week. We have seen so many miracles!    For starters, last Sunday our sister missionaries had to stay home cause one of them got sick, so I had to read Sister Cooleys talk in sacrament meeting. I was worried cause Sister Cooley has pretty good german so her talk used some pretty big words (I can barely English good, let alone German). I practiced a talk a bit that morning, but was still have some trouble with some words. Before I got up to speak I was real nervous, so I said a little prayer, and as I walked up all my nervousness was gone. I started talking (I also had to introduce myself and bear my own testimony) and the words just flowed. I read through the whole talk without hiccups, and that was definitely the Gift of Tongues. I really should not have been able to read that talk and bear my testimony as smoothly as I did without Gods help (honestly, my German isn't THAT great).    We also were able to get to know and become a lo...

Findechristus

Findechristus was one of the first mission websites in the world. At the time of its creation in 2020, the interim Frankfurt mission president didn't know that mission websites weren't allowed, so he let the media elders start it up! When President Hammon took over later that year, he continued it! After many miracles, and having to fight to show the missionary department the website's effectiveness, Findechristus was a success. During my time on my mission, we would put stickers with our phone number and the church address on Findechristus cards and hand them to people we talked to. I started collecting one of each kind over the course of my mission. People could also order a free Book of Mormon on the website, which was a source of a lot of our referrals and even some of the friends we taught.
