Kennenlernen, A Lipstick Purchase, And A Bash

Image
Hallo Alle! I'm not even sure what happened this past week. The days have been going by so fast that they honestly all blur together. (Side note: kennenlernen is the verb for getting to know something or someone, in case you cared enough to read my creative title :) This week we tried to talk to a lot more people on the street and the train. Something we would do is both of us would get on to two different sides of the street tram and that way we could talk to more people. Everytime we got off he would be like "Oh yeah I had a nice conversation with these 3 people" but on my side no one ever wanted to talk to me haha. Was it my hair? Did  I have a stain on my shirt? Or am I just scary? I guess we will never know. Yesterday we had another member dinner appointment (yay!). It was only my third or fourth one so I was pretty excited. It was with the Kras family. He is from Croatia, but essentially has lived in Germany for most of his life, and she is from Argentina. It's ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #16 - Dinner In Scotland, Different Expectations, And Running Errands

Gemoije allerseits! This week was pretty great! I say that every week, but its usually true anyways. Last Friday we had dinner over at a members house for essentially the first time (a lot of our ward is single old people, so we usually dont have dinner at members house). The Mückes are really awesome. They have two small boys and a 1 year old girl, and Sister Mücke is from Scotland and Brother Mücke is from here in Germany. They both speak English in addition to German though so we just talked in English. As soon as we walked in the door, their two boys came running up to me to show me all their legos, star wars toys, and their dinosaurs, and it was so funny. Its also really trippy to hear them running around talking in English and responding in German, or saying half a thought in German, and then the rest of it in English. It was so weird because not only were we talking in English with members for like 2 hours, but I was listening to a member who did not have a German or American ac...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #15 - Someone New, A Train, And I'm A Celebrity

Servus meine Lieblingsleute! This one won't be as long don't worry.  So this week has been pretty great. We are definitely putting more work in. We have both been trying harder on Facebook and just on the street to find people willing to talk with us. I had texted someone a couple weeks ago who hadnt been contacted since March, and he decided that he wanted to try and meet with us. We met with him on Wednesday, and he said he wants to meet again next week. We just got to know him mostly, and talked a little bit about his views on God and stuff, but he is really nice and interested in what we have to offer. He is actually from India and speaks English, which is nice (although it seems as my German slowly improves, my English slowly gets worse...but don't use "good" and "well" incorrectly, because no matter how bad my English is, good and well will still drive me crazy, sorry). Anyways... both of our other friends interested in the Church are still really ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #14 - Best Buds With An Apostle

Was geht ab allerseits?! Let me know if these emails are too long and if I should just get to the point. Anyways. This was quite the week. For starters, Germany just closed their borders again and so new missionaries will not be coming in for a little bit, which is bit of a bummer. Only my group and one other group of missionaries have made it in straight to Germany, so I am very lucky to have come when I did (sorry everyone else).  Besides that, a lot of cool stuff has happened. On Sunday I was fasting and praying that we could find someone who needed the Gospel in their life. Later in the day I was on Facebook and I decided that I would add some people who are friends with one of the members in the ward. Later ob, I get a message from one of the people I completely randomly added who is a member of the Church somewhere else in Germany. She told me that she had been baptized as a teenager in Saarbrücken, but the rest of her family didnt join the Church.  She has been praying ...

Frankfurt Germany Mission #13 - Crazies, Old People, And Refugees

Hallo allerseits! So I started naming my email because someone who I won't specify (it was my last companion Elder De Young) made fun of my emails for just being titled the same thing each week with a different number. So now I'll try to think of more creative names. Also Elder Jacobsen and I are actually getting along pretty well, in case anyone was worried.   But anyways, this week has been pretty weird. As far as crazies go, Elder Jacobsen and I were walking on the street next to a strasse bahn stop (the street train) and a guy on a bike started zooming towards us screaming and shouting insults in German and when he got up to us he got in our face and was all like "(something in crazy man german)... (more in crazy man german)". I think my life flashed before my eyes, but we survived and as he biked away, he kept shouting but we kept walking.  We also stopped and talked to quite a few older people on the street this week. And let me say, old Germans like to talk onc...
