Fast Food For Royalty, So Soon? And Klingon
Hallo Alle!
This has been a pretty crazy week!
On Friday we had an exchange with the Bonn Elders. I was with Elder Brough and we had a fun time talking to some cool people on the street while he sorta gave me a tour of the city. We stopped and talked to quite a few people, and surprisingly a lot of people actually were willing to talk, and a lot also wanted to stay in contact so that was nice! It's a really pretty city and there is a lot of history, which I love! We also went and got Five Guys that night (yes they have it in Germany), and although it tasted pretty good, I don't know if it was worth the small fortune that it cost. American food is a novelty here. Also why does literally everyone think we are employees no matter where we are? Not only do I get asked what time trains are going and leaving all the time at the train station, but we even got asked by a lady at Five Guys if she was allowed to use the bathroom. If you want to get in anywhere, all you have to do is where a name tag and a fancy shirt.
The next day I found out I would be getting transferred to Darmstadt! It was pretty unexpected to be honest because I thought I would be staying at least another transfer in Aachen and finishing Elder Reid's training, but after two transfers I am out! It was a lot of fun in Aachen and I actually feel like I was able to accomplish a lot and really help the members and our friends though, so as sad as I was to leave, I didn't regret any of the time I spent there. We had a 50th year celebration of our Stake in Düsseldorf on Sunday so I didn't get to say goodbye to the ward, but I did get a chance to see some of them and some members from Duisburg which was awesome.
Now I am in Darmstadt and so far it has been a blast. Apparently it is like the 3rd biggest ward in Germany, so I am pretty excited. Yesterday we did a service project for a German soup kitchen called "die Tafel" and basically what they do is they get the food that grocery stores aren't able to sell anymore but is still good, and they make meals out of it or give it to people who can't afford food. So we drove around with a guy named Heinz (like the ketchup) for about 6 hours running around to different grocery stores. When I got in the car, Heinz started talking to me in Klingon or some alien language that I wasn't able to identify. And then I realized it was German! His accent is crazy, and I have never heard anything like it. I am pretty sure even some of the Germans just smiled and nodded when he would say jokes.
Yesterday we also had an activity for the youth (young mens and womens) and I felt right back at home. There were about the same amount if not more youth than we have back home and they did a team building activity building some puzzles out of wood. I felt like I was back in Scouts! One kid, Joey, who speaks perfect English because his mom is American, kept coming up to me trying to impress me with his magic tricks, and even though most of the time it was NOT my card, I was impressed by his determination and insistence that it WAS my card.
Anyways that is all for this week y'all! Love you and talk to you next week.
