I Made It!!!
Hallo Alles!
I'm in Germany! After multiple delays on Monday, we finally were able to fly straight into Frankfurt. That same day we found out who our trainers would be and what area we would be assigned to. I was put with Elder De Young in Saarbrücken, but our area technically includes all of the German state of Saarland. Elder De Young is awesome (so far.... jkjk). He compliments my German wayyyyyyy too much, which is not good because sometimes compliments go straight to my head (something I'm working on...). Either way, he's great. I sorta regret telling people I play piano, because Elder De Young has already recruited me to play piano for church since that task has often fell on him.
Saarbrücken is a pretty cool city. It's not your typical small-town picturesque German town, but it is so cool nonetheless. It borders France so most people here speak with a French-influenced accent so sometimes they like to just drop letters or sometimes replace "a" with "o". We live right next to the river, the train station and everything else, so we don't even need a car, especially considering how good public transportation is here.
Right after getting off the train to Saarbrücken from Frankfurt, we met with a really nice lady named Christina who is like a Bible ninja master of some sort. She has half of it memorized, but her faith in God and Jesus Christ is so admirable. After a 3 hour long conversation (thankfully we had a German church member there with us to talk with her most of the time) she accepted a Book of Mormon and an invitation to come to church on Sunday. Afterward, I had my first Dönerkebab (one with fries on top, look it up if you haven't heard of it)... and Bruder Adams.... it was just as good as you described...
It's so crazy to think I'm actually here and have already jumped into the work. Although I have doubts here and there, as I am bound to have throughout my whole mission, overall I am so glad I made this decision to serve a mission. Not only do I look forward to becoming more fluent in German, but especially strengthening my testimony of Jesus Christ.
Love you all,
Elder Allan
