Frankfurt Germany Mission #9
Hallo jeder!
This is gonna be real short cause I don't have much time. But essentially to update yall I've have been helping out with the floods here in Germany for this past week. We have been in Ahrweiler essentially shoveling mud, helping people get water out of their house and its crazy. Tuesday and yesterday we cleaned out a school and its basement which was filled with hundreds of gallons worth of mud and sludge. It is honestly so insane. Today we were cleaning out the lower level of a hospital and it looked straight out of a horror movie because it was so wrecked. You can see the water line around 10 feet above the ground on buildings. It has been almost 3 weeks since the flooding stopped, and there are still broken trees everywhere, peoples belongings in the street, and smashed cars strewn everywhere. It is so sad to see (especially when you see all these historical buildings essentially lost, and people who have lost everything) but it is such an incredible experience and the people in Germany are SOOOOO grateful for any help they recieve. Being able to talk with the people who are so humble after having lost so much is such an incredibly cool experience. Since we wear these yellow vests and blue overalls everyone calls us either the Yellow Angels or just simply the Minions (like from the movie haha). We were waiting for our bus today after standing in a rain storm unloading a truck of water for 30 minutes, when a lady offered us a bunch of pastries from her bakery to thank us for our work. This is not what I expected on my mission, but it has been easily the most incredible experience of my life. You all will get some more pictures and more experiences next week when I have more time. Love you all :)
