Frankfurt Germany Mission #14 - Best Buds With An Apostle
Was geht ab allerseits?!
Let me know if these emails are too long and if I should just get to the point.
Anyways.
This was quite the week. For starters, Germany just closed their borders again and so new missionaries will not be coming in for a little bit, which is bit of a bummer. Only my group and one other group of missionaries have made it in straight to Germany, so I am very lucky to have come when I did (sorry everyone else).
Besides that, a lot of cool stuff has happened. On Sunday I was fasting and praying that we could find someone who needed the Gospel in their life. Later in the day I was on Facebook and I decided that I would add some people who are friends with one of the members in the ward. Later ob, I get a message from one of the people I completely randomly added who is a member of the Church somewhere else in Germany. She told me that she had been baptized as a teenager in Saarbrücken, but the rest of her family didnt join the Church. She has been praying for a long time that her dad would find the Gospel and God in his life, so she asked if we could go by sometime and visit her father. That really just strengthened my testimony of fasting and prayer. I truly believe that it was an answer not only to my prayers, but to hers as well.
Another miracle this week. We went to visit an inactive member, but when we traveled all the way out there we realized he had moved. I spent half our time traveling out to where he was supposedly öiving so we figured we didnt qant to make it a total waste of time. We decided to check and see if there were any other members or inactive members who we could visit. There was one lady somewhat nearby but we decided to call first. We did and she told us that she hasnt been contacted by missionaries or anyone in the church in over 30 years, and but that she would be happy to meet with us. If we hadnt done what we did that day, even though it seemed like a waste of time at first, we likely would have never called that lady. The Lord definitely guided us to her.
But the absolute highlight of my week. Elder Bednar of the Twelve Apostles came and spoke to our mission in Frankfurt. We drove up with some other Elders Wednesday night, spent the night in Heidelberg and got some Five Guys for dinner (yes for some reason they have Five guys in Germany but not Chickfila, but ill survive), and got up the next morning to drive to Frankfurt. It was an incredible experience. I got to see friends that I meant during the service week and also some others from last transfer. But most importantly, we got to hear from Elder Bednar. Elder Bednar just let us ask questions, make comments, or he would ask us questions about what we thought about certain things, and it was essentially a discussion. I was able to be very close to the front and it was really cool. Something he talked a lot about is how important it is to act in faith. A lot of the time, we just wait for God to show us a sign. Although God loves all His children and plays a part in all our lives, we are not able to receive a witness for ourselves that He lives unless we are willing to take the first step forward into "the dark unkown", having faith that He will light the way. We should be agents who act, not objects that wait to be acted upon. Anyways it was amazing experience, and I recieved a very strong, undeniable, confirmation that apostles truly are called of God, and that Elder Bednar specifically in that moment was saying the words that God wanted him to say. I got to break it to yall, apostles and propjets are real, I have no doubt about that in my mind. And they lead Christs church on the earth today.
Love yall, peace out,
Landon
P.S. Picture of all of us with Elder Bednar is soon to come, maybe next week.
