Frankfurt Germany Mission #16 - Dinner In Scotland, Different Expectations, And Running Errands

Gemoije allerseits!

This week was pretty great! I say that every week, but its usually true anyways.

Last Friday we had dinner over at a members house for essentially the first time (a lot of our ward is single old people, so we usually dont have dinner at members house). The Mückes are really awesome. They have two small boys and a 1 year old girl, and Sister Mücke is from Scotland and Brother Mücke is from here in Germany. They both speak English in addition to German though so we just talked in English. As soon as we walked in the door, their two boys came running up to me to show me all their legos, star wars toys, and their dinosaurs, and it was so funny. Its also really trippy to hear them running around talking in English and responding in German, or saying half a thought in German, and then the rest of it in English. It was so weird because not only were we talking in English with members for like 2 hours, but I was listening to a member who did not have a German or American accent (Scottish) and I almost forgot what mission I was in. They made some good Spagehtti Bolognese, und we shared a message with them and their kids about preparing General Conference.

I must say, I had very different expectations when I came into the mission when it came to teaching. I knew Germany was a harder area because there aren't as many people readily open to the Gospel, but I still imagined having like quite a few teaching appointments a week. For some areas, that is the case, but not   here in Saarbrücken right now. All three of our investigators/friends are really busy right now and can rarely, if ever, meet, which makes it a bit difficult. Its also really hard to find new people. Even when we get someones number or something, oftentimes they never respond or arent willing to meet (which isnt really only a Germany thing im sure, its more of a mission thing). On the bright side, when we do find someone willing to listen, it is even more exciting. Either way, we keep going!

This week our member who is in a care facility called us, and asked if we could pick up some stuff for her. Saarbrücken isnt really her main home, so she doesnt really know a lot of people here who come visit her or can help her besides us. So we ran to the store for her to get 10 packs of hand wipes/baby wipes (I totally felt like a dad walking out of that store), and then some stuff for writing letters. Unfprtunately we didnt get the right tooth brush or enough hand wipes, and she also needed a phone case, so we ran some more errands today. Honestly, even though I did not imagine myself doing this on my mission, Im still glad I get the opportunity to serve others. I find it so cool, especially with her, the trust that we have built with some of the people here. Just the other day, she called us to just get some stuff off her chest. Not only are we missionaries who can talk about religion but we are good listeners too! I guess you could say we are the whole package.

Spiritual thought for the week! The Book of Mormon answers your questions. Thats a fact right there. I was having some doubts out of nowhere about some things, and I opened my Book of Mormon to where I left and the first verse I read was 2 Nephi 4:3

"Now behold ye know that this is true; and ye also know that an angel hath spoken unto you; wherefore can ye doubt?"

If that wasnt a slap in the face. I've never seen an angel before, but I have undeniably had Spiritual experiences, I know I have felt the Holy Ghost before, and I know that I have felt the love of God and Jesus Christ before. So I tried to remember those things which I knew, instead of that which I didnt know, and my doubts no longer became such a worry. Asking questions is always good, but dont let things you dont understand or dont know unravel everything you know to be true.
Talk to yall next week

Bis dann meine Kumpels.
