Kennenlernen, A Lipstick Purchase, And A Bash
Hallo Alle!
I'm not even sure what happened this past week. The days have been going by so fast that they honestly all blur together. (Side note: kennenlernen is the verb for getting to know something or someone, in case you cared enough to read my creative title :)
This week we tried to talk to a lot more people on the street and the train. Something we would do is both of us would get on to two different sides of the street tram and that way we could talk to more people. Everytime we got off he would be like "Oh yeah I had a nice conversation with these 3 people" but on my side no one ever wanted to talk to me haha. Was it my hair? Did
I have a stain on my shirt? Or am I just scary? I guess we will never know.
Yesterday we had another member dinner appointment (yay!). It was only my third or fourth one so I was pretty excited. It was with the Kras family. He is from Croatia, but essentially has lived in Germany for most of his life, and she is from Argentina. It's funny because her German is so heavily influenced by her Spanish accent, so she almost makes German sound like one of the Romance languages. It was really fun and it is always so nice to get to know the members more. Im hoping I don't get transferred next week, because the ball really starting to get rolling, between more members being at church, and more investigators.
Also remember the member that we ran errands for? Well we had to get more stuff on Saturday before we went and visited her. She called us and said she needed some more letter writing paper (the pretty type), and some tape, and more stamps. We were like "OK thats not too much more, we can do that". And then when we went to the store, she called us again and said she needed some makeup wipes, nail polish remover, and three types of lipstick! It was so embarrassing having to say excuse me to adult women who were looking at makeup so that I could get by and get some lipstick. When we checked out, it was the same cashier as every other time, so this lady has seen us walk out with 10 packs of baby wipes, a toilet brush, a toothbrush, and 3 types of lipstick and other makeup stuff. She definitely knows us (because we sorta stand out with white shirts and name tags), and I think she has decided not to bother asking questions.
After the store and on the way to visit her, a french guy (he spoke german though) stopped us on the street (I think he was evangelical) and started interrogating us about why we are the "Church of Jesus Christ" when we read the Book of Mormon. We tried to explain how the Book of Mormon contains the teachings of Christ and testifies of Him, but that we also read and use the Bible. He started yelling and saying that the Bible is perfect, but the Book of Mormon is false. He wouldn't let us ask any questions, and then of course He started asking us about polygamy and why would God allow it even if it was 200 years ago. We explained and He wouldn't except the answer, and everytime we used the Bible to support our explanations for stuff, He wouldn't accept our answer and said that the Bible is perfect so if we use it, we must be using incorrectly. He wouldn't listen so I just said we had to go (which we did). I was trying to be patient but he barely let us answer his questions, and he wouldn't let us ask any of our own. I think I experienced my first "Bible bash" (let's hope I can avoid them in the future haha). Something that that experience reminded me, is how my goal is to teach like and be more like Christ. He was the perfect teacher. As I have studied his life in the New Testament and by reading the book Jesus the Christ. I have come to realize how patient He was (and still is), and He never really got angry at someone who didn't listen to Him or refused to let Him teach. I mean even when He was on the cross, He asked Heavenly Father to forgive the Pharisees, Romans, and other groups who had him killed. He was slow to anger, but quick to love. I have come to realize how important that is.
Oh yeah and we went to an old castle today called Teufelsburg.
Anyways I'll talk to yall again next week (I could be somewhere else in Germany!)
Tschüss meine Kumpels!
