A Walking Miracle, General Conference Hype, And A Guy From The Straßenbahn
Hallo meine Lieblingsleute!
Another week gone by. I say this every single week, but the days really do fly by.
Transfers were this week and both Elder Jacobsen and I will be staying in Saarbrücken for another 6 weeks! Honestly I'm excited cause we just got the ball rolling. Members are started to invite us over to church now, we have a lot of people possibly interested in learning more about the Gospel, and we are now teaching anogher person (that requires a bit of a story).
We got a referral from another missionary for this guy on Facebook who said he was interested but lived in our area. We set up an appointment with him last Friday. His profile picture was a picture of a youngish, buff, guy, but his voice messages sounded like he was 100, so we really didnt know what to expect. Anyways we get to the house, and we say a statue of Mary outside and we were a little scared simply because we were worried that he might have just invited us over to "bash". We went in, sat down, and he tells us his life story. Wow. He used to do kung fu or something when he was young, so that was his profile picture. After 50 years of life he found out that his heart had only been operating at 15% for most of his life. He has had 6 bypass surgeries (plus other operations), and should definitely not be alive at this point, its really a miracle (or rather many miracles) . He knows the Bible so well, and has incredible faith in Jesus Christ. So much so that he said that he has been able to help paralytics move again through Christ (im not sure if thats true or not, but the point is that he has a LOT of faith in Jesus Christ). He doesnt really belong to a religion, but is looking for something to guide his worship I think. Funny enough, he actually said that Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) are the only people of a different religion that he trusts enough to pray with haha. Anyways, he wants to know more!
We also had General Conference this past weekend of course. Its a little weird since the "morning" session starts at 6pm for us, and the the last session on saturday starts at 2am Sunday morning (we watched the evening sessions the next day). Anyways, I decided to go into Conference with some questions written down and I actually had a really cool experience. We went to a members house to watch the first session, and I was little worried because I thought that since I would be watching it in German, I wouldnt really recognize an, answers to my questions in the talks. We started conference and as I listened to the prayer (in German), my very first question was answered. And as I watched Conference, I really only understood 40% of it, but I was able to find answers to all of my questions just in the first session. It wasnt about understanding everything the speakers were saying, it was about understanding what the Holy Ghost was saying to me. That first question was "How can I better see the hand of the Lord in my life", and what I realized from the prayer is that its as I seek to be the hand of the Lord in the life of others, I will be able to see the hand of the Lord in my own life.
A quick cool experience from talking to people on the street this week. We were talking to people on the Straßenbahn (tram) and just riding it back and forth. One of the times we got off, we were deciding what we wanted to do next and all of the sudden someone came up to us asking about where our church was located. Turns out that he is already familiar with the Church of Jesus Christ, and has been interested in learning more recently. He was a really cool dude and really nice. He asked about our Sacrament service on Sunday, and he said he wanted to come. He had to leave eventually and got on the Straßenbahn. About 30 minutes later we had the choice to walk and talk to people on the street or get back on the tram and I just had the feeling that we should get on the tram. We were on the Straßenbahn in the opposite direction from where we had beeb eariler, and the guy, that we met at the tram stop got on the Straßenbahn. Him and I talked for a little bit before he had to get off again, but it didnt make any sense how he would be getting on the tram again where he did, because when he left the first time he left in the opposite direction. Either way, I dont know why I needed to talk to that guy again or why we needed to see each other again, but I know that the Lord puts people in our paths who want and need the Gospel.
Sorry for the long emails, but I always have a lot to say!
Bis nächste Woche meine Kumpels!
