Exploring Saarland, Giving Hope, And Teaching Someone German?
Hallo Alle!
Another week gone by. It is so weird to think about that in just under 5 weeks, I will already be 1/4 done with my mission (6 months mark). I promise I'm not counting down, its just crazy how fast the time flies by.
This week we have had a ton of Book of Mormon referrals (people who order a free Book of Mormon), and so we did a lot of traveling around Saarland delivering Book of Mormons. We got to see a lot of areas that we haven't seen yet. I honestly had not expected there to be so much countryside in Germany. It reminds me a lot of Virginia. Its also getting colder, and all the trees are changing colors. We had one Book of Mormon order from some small town in the middle of nowhere. We got there and it really made me appreciate more where I am. It sounds cheesy but the air was so fresh, the houses were all different, and you could see the farms and stuff in the distance. Anyways it was just really cool. We also delivered a Book of Mormon yesterday, and the lady wanted to know more about it so we set a time to come back! So that was exciting.
This week we also had an appointment with someone who a member in Frankfurt said was interested. She is from Taiwan, but speaks a good amount of German. She is going through a really hard time right now but is so humble and eager to learn more about the Gospel. She has a Buddhist background, and it is such a cool experience to see someone learn about God and Jesus Christ for the first time. I can tell when we taught her about prayer and looking to Christ for support really gave her hope. I felt the Spirit so strong and it was an awesome experience. She said she wants to meet again, and she wants to have her daughter participate as well, so that is awesome.
We have a member whos American (actually from Utah) and married to a German. His wife is not a member but had been meeting with the missionaries for a long time, and has a really strong testimony, but she keeps getting stuck on one thing. Hopefully she will make the decision to be baptized soon! Ben (the American) is trying to learn better German (so he has more employment opportunities here), and so he asked us to treat him like someone we are teaching the Gospel to, except instead of the Gospel, its German. We are giving him commitments to keep outside of meeting with him, and giving him German things to work on at home. Not only am I teaching the Gospel on my mission, but somehow I am teaching German as well (im not sure I am the one to be trusted with that, but oh well haha).
Enjoy the shorter email this week.
Bis später meine Kumpels,
Elder Lando
