Basically Friends With Uchtdorf, Riots, And Change Of Plans

Hallo Leute!

What an interesting week! Always assume the week went by fast unless I say otherwise because I'm sorta tired of writing it.

We had quite a busy week. Last week we actually texted quite a few members asking if we could come by to practice teaching and stuff, and so we were able to meet with two families. On Friday we met with the Tschierschwitz family and they are awesome! They are so nice, have a HUGE garden in their backyard where they grow all of their own vegetables AND fruit, and they are friends with Elder Uchtdorf. They were also temple missionaries for the last year and they were able to share some cool experiences. We also were invited over by the Mücke family on Monday. At first we were a little nervous because we didnt know them as well, and Brother Mücke always seemed like a hardcore German who sticks to the rules and very percise (sorry for the stereotype but honestly its pretty true round here, what can I say), but him and Sister Mücke and their family are awesome! They are so nice and really funny, and they love the Gospel.

Saturday was a weird day to say the least. We had to travel outside of Saarland to a city that is still in our area (Zweibrücken), so we bought a train ticket, but as we were stopped at one of the train stations along the way, we found out we all had to get off because a train had an accident ahead of us. So there we were stranded in the middle of nowhere waiting for a bus or something. It got to the point where it wouldn't even be worth it to go to Zweibrücken, so we just got on a train to go home. When we got home there were tons of fußball (soccer) fans coming home from a game. A bit later we were walking past our apartment and we saw tons of police cars and vans, and hundreds of police officers decked out in riot gear. They were escorting the away team (Kaiserslautern who won, and is the rival of Saarbrücken), so that they didn't get attacked by any of the Saarbrücken fans. It literally felt like we were in a warzone or something. The fans were shouting, sirens were going, and police officers just kept emerging out of nowhere. In fact, a lady and a guy got out of a smoking car they had just left in the street and immediately started talking into their walkie talkies and running. I was so confused and then I realized they had police vests on but were wearing normal clothes. It literally seemed like a scene out of a movie. Long story short, Germany takes their soccer rivalries VERY seriously.

On monday we had a whole day planned. Then we got 2 calls from two different people needing help. Our investigator Christine was incredibly sick so she needed us to go get a case of water for her. We took a bus out to where she lives and then we also got a call from one of our members who needed help with something else. Once we were done helping Christine we went over to Bruder Frahs and spent a while showing him how to use his phone. Even though most of our days plans changed, it made me realize how grateful I am to have the opportunity to serve people every day. I would never have met these people or had the opportunity to help any of them if I had not come on a mission!

Last thing! Yesterday we had district council, along with the zone leaders. Afterwards, we did a district finding activity and went street contacting. There was one time where I turned a corner and there was someone right there. Normally I wouldn't talk to someone like that because it was so sudden, but immediately I started talking to him without even thinking. He said that he doesn't really go to church or anything, but thinks family is really important. Both of us were able to bear testimony about how important family is, and how we can see and live with our family even after death. It was a really cool experience, and I don't really know why I talked to him, but I think the Holy Ghost definitely led me to do so.

I've learned a lot this week about the importance of trying to do God's will, instead of your own, because when you do, you will see so many blessings and God's hand in your own life! (Sounds like a lot of work, probably worth it though)

Anyways talk to yall next week (I could be in a different city next week! Any guesses?)

Tschüss meine Kumpels
