My Aura, Analogies, And Déjà-Vu

Hallo zusammen!

 

This week was awesome. We are seeing some progress with our friends and that has been really exciting.

 

We taught Patrizio this week, and that is always an adventure. For starters we walked in his apartment, and asked if we ate garlic before we came, and we were like "last night...." and he said "cause I can smell it". That really threw me off my game and I am now very self conscious about eating garlic. At least I'll keep all the vampires away. He also claims he is really good at reading people so he kept staring into our eyes and telling us what he saw and who we are as people. Apparently I have a strong personality and strong "spiritual aura" but my faith isn't as strong as it could be. I mean I guess he technically wasn't wrong. Who needs Anyways he talked a lot about why he is meeting with us, and he said that we bring a good spirit with us everytime we come and when we leave it leaves with us and he he goes back to feeling bad, and we explained how he can have that good feeling with him throughout his whole life with the gift of the holy ghost. Later I felt prompted to ask if we could pray together and so we did and afterwards he said he felt as if something really good just entered the room, and we were able to explain that that was the Spirit and he was excited to learn more about it.

 

We also met with our friend Omar who I mentioned before had some hard questions. We ended up spending 3 hours with him just answering his questions (and me drawing a lot on the white board... I like analogies), and although the Atonement is starting to make sense for him now, he is still confused why God sent his own son to suffer for our sins. We found some scriptures that might help him though, so we are looking forward to meeting with him again. He did however say that all he wants is to find the right true church of God and do the things God wants him to do, which was so cool to hear. He is really so humble and wants to learn.

 

We also did more Straßenbahn contacting this week and lemme just say, it's not so bad anymore. We were on the bus going to our usual Straßenbahn stop and I guess my companion and I were thinking differently because I had us get off at the wrong time, so we ended up talking on a different Bahn than expected. But we sat down in the Bahn, and I sat down across from a guy sitting alone. I suddenly felt like I really needed to talk to him, but we were getting off in one stop so I hesitated, but I did it anyway. We ended up having a great conversation and we got off at the same stop and kept talking about Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon, and he said he would love to get a Book of Mormon in Persian (he couldn't speak a ton of English or German). He also told me he doesn't even live in Duisburg and that he had been talking to one of our missionaries in Düsseldorf but it has been a while since they have talked. Without guidance from the Spirit, what are the chances that I would get on the same exact Bahn and sit next to a guy who has been in contact with the missionaries before, but really wanted a Book of Mormon? Lemme tell you... there are no coincidences!

Hallo alle! A crazy week to say the least!    On Saturday we (the Essen and Dortmund District missionaries) hosted a stake youth activity in Dortmund. It was called "Great Gatsby Night: a Night in the 1920's" - who wouldn't want to go to that? It was a huge success and actually a good amount of youth showed up which was way cool. We played a bunch of card games, served drinks, and it was a ton of fun! Maybe I will be a waiter when I get home. I only managed to screw up a couple orders and forget 3 others, and only one person told me they would leave me a 2 star Yelp review. It was such a great opportunity to create better relationships with the youth and show them that missionaries are just normal people too!   We met this week with Dennis again, along with two other missionaries that we were on a split with, and Marco (the GOAT, he is got to be one of my best friends here in Germany now, plus he is like 6'11", so to have a connection like him has its perks! ...

Prayer, Brezel, And Escalator To Heaven

Hallo Leute! It's been a good week! Last Thursday we had a lesson with Alex and Galina. They are dating, but Alex is a member and Galina is not. We talked about the steps before baptism, and we even asked them if they want to get sealed sometime in the temple, and they enthusiastically said yes! The Spirit was so strong and you could see how much they cared for each other and how much they looked forward to being able to be together for eternity. Galina is really excited to get baptized, and today we are going to be talking more about what it takes to get there. On Friday we had three lessons in a row, all of which were really powerful. The first one with Dominik who was recently baptized. He is such a great guy and he is trying so hard to live the Gospel! The Gospel has really changed his life and he talked to us about how grateful he is for it and for the blessings he has seen.
