Oreos, Life Is Hard, Learning New Things Inbox
Hallo meine Lieblingsleute!
Hope you all had an awesome week!
This week went by weirdly fast. I always wake up and then literally in a couple of minutes I go back to sleep (I don't mean that literally, I promise I get up on time, dont tell President Hammon). But no joke it really feels like the days are just going by like crazy. In case anyone is wondering, I've been on my mission for almost 8 months now, and for about 6.5 of those I have been in Germany. I don't know how you all have survived without me for so long, but I'm proud that you have pushed through!
Last week we had a Zone Conference, which was awesome! We drove up early again with Piet to help him get the food ready, so we woke up at 5, and once we got back around 8pm, we started cleaning the church, and so needless to say, it was a long day... but a good one! We talked a lot about finding ways to improve, the power of the Book of Mormon, and how to conquer fears/obstacles. It was really rewarding for me, and I got to see some friends so that is always awesome. (Also we played some games and I must say that I am pretty darn good and getting an oreo from my forehead, into my mouth).
We also focused a lot on getting better at talking to people on the Straßenbahn this week, and let me just tell y'all, I may be pretty talkative at home, but when its in a different language and about a subject that a lot of people aren't very open to, then my talkativeness goes way down. It's interesting because I feel confident in my German skills, and I'm not worried about being able to hold a conversation with someone, but just going up to someone and talking on the bus or bahn is pretty hard some days (i think i've talked about this like 6 times in my emails, but it's still true). I don't know why, but public transportation is a lot harder than just talking to people on the street for me. On the street, I have no problem talking to whoever, but if I step into a moving vehicle, the battle begins...
In Preach My Gospel it gives a recommendation for something to study, and it suggests reading through Moroni 10, and writing in your own words a list of what Moroni "exhorts" or asks us to do. I did that, and it gave me a really cool and new perspective on what it means for me to follow Christ and be a Christian. It made everything really clear and fairly simple, and I would definitely recommend it to all of you as well.
Anyways, missionary work is a lot of fun, but also pretty hard, but something I've learned out here is how important it is to not get too down on yourself. We all make lots of mistakes, miss golden opportunities, and feel like we aren't good enough at something (or good at all), but what is most important is to always seek to progress and learn. We should never beat ourselves up as a "punishment" for something we have done (or not done). Jesus Christ stood between us and justice so that we don't have to do that! If it takes you 1 day or 1 year to make that progress that's okay, it's all about your direction, not your speed.
Anyways thanks for listening to my TED Talk (or reading it).
I hope you guys have an awesome week!
Tschüsssssssssss!
