Climbing Mt. Everest, German Lactose, And Jesus's Friends
Hallo Alle!
This was another good week!
On Saturday we helped a couple in our ward move to a new apartment. Sorry I don't have any pictures from that, I am really bad at remembering to take pictures. I haven't done a good move in a while, so it was actually a lot of fun. Brother and Sister Kempkens lived on the third floor of one apartment building, and so we (along with thankfully 7 others) helped them get all their furniture and bookcases into their moving van. After playing tetris in the van packing everything, we realized we are going to be helping them unloading as well. We got with Brother Kempkens in the moving van, and he seemed really nervous and looked over at us and said "I've never driven something this big on streets so small". But don't worry everyone, we survived (mostly). So once we got to the new apartment we found out that they were moving into the fourth floor apartment. Let me tell you all, no math and latin teacher should live on the fourth story. After carrying up all those bookshelves and boxes full of books I think my thighs melted away. It was actually a lot of fun though and I enjoyed doing it. Something that the mission has really changed in me is that now I really love to do service. I mean I liked to help people of course before my mission (except for my sisters), but now I seek out opportunities and it really makes my happy.
We also went on splits in Düsseldorf with the Zone Leaders. Elder Brown has been my Zone Leader for my entire time in Germany somehow, but yet this was my first time on a split with him. We pretty much just did street contacting for 5 hours and it was really good for me. He is so awesome and talks with EVERYONE, and it helped me get out of my comfort zone a bit more too. I even talked to some German JUNGS (pronounced yoongs, aka. german teenage boys.....trust me they are so scary, I don't know why but they are). It was a lot of fun and I also found out that I am German-Lactose intolerant.... don't ask....
We also did a mission fast on Monday evening till Tuesday evening, and I learned a lot about fasting during that. I have come to realize that it is important not to just go hungry, but to include a lot of prayer and scripture study in your fasting. By fasting willingly, you show the Lord that He takes priority, even over food. However if you don't include prayer or even involve the Lord in your fast, you are just going hungry, and it doesn't really matter. But anyways, fasting is actually really powerful, and even if it isn't fasting from food, it is a sign to the Lord that you are willing to sacrifice, and for that you and others will be blessed.
Yesterday we had a lesson with our friend Patrizio, and it was very confusing as usual. We brought one of our members Sharon with us, and she was also confused. I asked him at one point if he had any questions about prayer, and he went on a 25 minute explanation about the movie made about the female Pope from in the medieval ages, and afterwards he said "what was the question again?". Anyways, we have to take it slow, but he loves the Book of Mormon and is starting to pray every morning, so that is really good!
We went to the Mahendran family for dinner yesterday and it was a lot of fun. Their kid is just 2.5 yrs old and is so cute. It took a moment for him to warm up to us, but when he did he kept trying to show us his toys and stuff and it was so fun. He calls the missionaries "Jesus's friends".
Anyways yall, that's all I have for you this week.
Bis später!
