Surprise, Magic Cookies, And Let's Start a Band!
Hallo alle!
A good week, as always. However, not a very normal one.
On Friday and Saturday we had some splits, and Elder Nelson from Wuppertal came here to Duisburg. Elder Nelson is awesome and we had a lot of fun. We also went over to the Werners on Friday night, which was also a lot of fun. She invites us over for dinner so often, and always makes the BEST food (in Germany, don't worry mom, yours is still the best in America).
On Sunday it was Vishnu's (a young adult in our ward) birthday, so we had a little surprise party for him. The sisters gave us a cooler with food and a banner and blankets and we walked to a park and set up a picnic. Then the sisters went on a walk with Vishnu without him knowing that they were leading him to us. It was sorta funny because when they showed up (like 30 minutes later) we had given up trying to string the banner up on trees, so we were just sitting back to back in the grass with our heads down. Sorry, I am bad at surprise parties. It was a lot of fun, and it was so cool to see how grateful Vishnu was.
Monday we went over to the Schmitz-Carta family for lunch and that was also a lot of fun. I love going over there because I always feel healthy since we always eat wraps. It is a good break from my pasta and quesadillas.
On Tuesday we did a "mini-mission" with a young adult in our ward, Diyar, who has been a member for just about a year. He is filling out his mission papers right now so that is really exciting. He is really close with most of the missionaries, not just us, but also in the mission. He has traveled around the mission doing "mini-missions'' with other missionaries all over our mission, which is crazy. Back home, I barely knew the missionaries in my own ward, let alone in other cities. Anyways, we had another lesson with Karina, who will be getting baptized again at the end of this month, which is really awesome. We also visited an older member, Bruder Kersten, who is in an old folks home. He is aware that he talks a lot, so everytime we go over he says "just 30 minutes! I promise!!!" But we all know that didnt happen. Diyar, seeing that we kept looking at our watches, decided to keep asking him questions, which was a little evil. Bruder Kersten would finish a story and say "ok, Schluss! Schluss!" Which means like "im done, that's enough, etc." And then he would be reminded of something else. Literally long story short, we stayed for 90 minutes not 30. Despite that, it was really cool to see how excited he got when we came to visit. He loves visitors, because he doesn't get many of them, and I imagine that if Christ was on the Earth today, He would do the same thing. Just sit, listen, and comfort.
On Tuesday, we texted one of the young adults in our ward, Chris, who he helped move, and asked if he needed any more help. He said no and that he was focusing on exams right now, so I just had the feeling to ask if he needed cookies (sorta as a joke), but he was like "yeah sure! I'd love some!". The next day we had District council and the elders in Wuppertal were 20 minutes late arriving, so we started and ended about 20 minutes late. Right after District council, we left to deliver the cookies to Chris. When we got there, he said he had just gotten home 20 minutes ago from his exam. He was happy about the cookies, and we sat and talked for a bit. He then asked us for a blessing because he was pretty stressed out. That was a big testimony builder for me that the Lord really cares about us and is in the specific details of our lives. If I hadn't asked Chris if he wanted cookies, and if the other elders train hadn't been 20 minutes late, we would have just missed Chris, and he probably would not have asked for a blessing. The Lord really cares about us, and puts exactly where we need to be when we need to be there, there are no coincidences!
Also Sister Cooley and I have recorded some music together to send out to the ward to lift some spirits! So that will be attached below!
Anyways, that's all for this week! Next week are transfers, will Elder Allan stay or go?
