April (Snow) Showers, A Miracle Bus, And General Conference!

Hallo alle!

I cannot believe that it is already Thursday. That's pretty crazy. And plus this transfer is shorter so we only have 2 1/2 weeks till the end of this transfer!

This week we had snow! Aachen actually got a good amount (even though it was gone the next day). It's sorta unfortunate cause everything started to bloom since it was supposed to be "Spring", but lo and behold the weather said "nein" and decided to snow. It's almost as crazy and unpredictable as Virginia weather!

We also had General Conference this week! We had a young adult activity Saturday evening go watch the morning session (it's a little weird here because we are 8 hours ahead of mountain daylight time, so it is more like the night session for us). It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot from Elder Bednar's talk about "heeding" those not who seek to criticize, belittle, or judge us based on our beliefs or our religion or who we are (strengths and weaknesses). Including Satan, or even you judging yourself. When we "heed" them not and focus on trusting in God and keeping covenants, life may not become easier, but it will become simpler and what we need to do will become clearer.

Sunday morning we had some breakfast at a member's house and watched another session of conference. They have a 2 year old and like a 6-12 month old and they are so fun. Elder Unsworth and I were sitting across from the 2 year old, and we were able to convince her to use her fork for her french toast. So I think that means I will essentially be the best dad ever at some point.

That evening was really cool. We watched ANOTHER session of conference with a young adult in the ward Paul and his friend Treasure, who we are teaching, and he LOVED it. He is from Nigeria and really religious, but he has had a hard time understanding why we need anything more than the Bible. But after Conference he was just really inspired and said "I want to watch more of this stuff!". Paul and Treasure left to catch a bus, but it was pretty late so we went out there with them, and they were talking about the Gospel with a lady at the bus stop. The lady started claiming that churches like ours take tithing and put it in their pocket and leave people starving, and then Treasure started essentially defending the church saying "You don't know that! I just watched this amazing conference and they help all the Ukrainian refugees and do so much humanitarian work, etc etc". And then Paul invited her to church! It was really cool to see a young member in our ward and another young guy who isn't even a member taking the opportunity to share the Gospel with this lady and we didn't even have to say anything!

A tiny miracle I saw this week is that we were on splits with the elders in Cologne, and we were about to miss a bus to go to an appointment. It hit the time when the bus was supposed to leave, but we hadn't walked out the door yet, so I thought we were gonna miss it. I said a little prayer in my head and said "Heavenly father please let this bus be a little delayed so we can make it". I then refreshed the bus app with the times, and right then it said the bus was going to be 2 minutes late. And we made it! It turns out that he really needed some emotional support so it is so amazing that we caught the bus. That was the tender mercy of the Lord right there!

We also went to dinner with a member last night who I had not met before (after running a kilometer or so since we went to the wrong restaurant at first). He is really awesome and we have a lot in common. He is a piano instructor here, and is so outgoing. We went to a small Chinese restaurant and he knew everyone there so he introduced everyone to us, and one girl actually started asking us about what we do and she was really interested, so we gave her a card, she showed it to her friend, and now both of them could be coming to church on Sunday! So that was pretty cool.

Oh and today we went to a town in our area called Monschau, which is considered one of the prettiest in Germany! To be honest, I thought that this town is what all of Germany was supposed to look like before I came out on my mission. That was a lot of fun, but it was pouring rain the whole time (what else can you expect from Europe), and of course as soon as we left, the blue skies came out. It was really cool anyway.

Oh yeah and we only need to wear masks in public transportation and grocery stores! Nowhere else! So that's exciting.

Anyways that's all for this week!

Love yall

Landon
