Regretten, Prayer, And God's FBI

Hallo alle!

This week was great!

On Friday we headed down to Frankfurt and met with Elder Uchtdorf! It was so cool to see all my friends again, but it was especially awesome to be able to see another apostle of the Lord. He did the whole conference in German and it was cool to see that I could actually understand everything. The thing that he said that really stood out the most to me is that the only thing we ever have to regret, especially on our mission, is not trying our best (also that's what I titled my email. Elder Uchtdorf speaks so much English that he forgot the word for regret in German and just said "regretten", it was pretty darn funny). He also talked about showing love to people and how important that is to God's plan. I felt the Spirit and God's love so strong when he was speaking, and overall it was really just an amazing experience.

On Saturday we came back to Aachen and we had a lesson on Zoom with a guy that the Elders in Trier had found, but lives in Aachen. His name is Victor, and we actually met with him yesterday as well. He is Indonesian, was/is Catholic, and is really interested in learning more. We had an awesome lesson with him yesterday and we invited him to read in the Book of Mormon and to pray about it, and so we will see how that goes!

On Sunday we saw a miracle! Some random person we texted two weeks ago and invited to church actually came! He came right after sacrament meeting and so we met with him separately and got to know him. He is from Afghanistan and really wants to find God and peace. When we prayed with him and I told him that he could say his prayers and talk with God in whatever language he wanted and pretty much how and whenever he wanted, he was amazed! He was so excited and in his broken English just kept saying "That is so good!". It was Elder Unsworth's last Sunday on the mission, so we also talked and met with a couple members on Sunday and Monday so he could say goodbye.

This week was transfers, and I found that I would be training! So I headed down to Frankfurt to pick up my new missionary while Elder Unsworth overnighted at another missionaries' apartment. Once we were in Frankfurt we went downtown and waited to meet the trainees there. They all hopped out of two big vans like God's FBI, and we took them street contacting. It reminded me of my first day as a brand new greenie. It was a 9 hour flight, I didn't sleep, we arrived in Frankfurt and had to do paperwork, and then we had to do street contacting! It was cool to be on the other side now though, where I was able to teach a new missionary some German tips and how to approach people on the street. The new missionary I was with wanted us to talk to a homeless guy who was sitting on the ground with his dog. So I was like "alright sure" and we went over and I talked to him asking how he was doing and if we could help him find peace and hope. And he started cursing me out and saying that because of people like us his dog was going to die, and he said stuff like "oh the nerve you have for asking me if I believe in God when I am sitting out here on the street". So after him yelling at us for a while, we walked away and Elder Escobar turned to me and asked "so what just happened" (since he can't understand German yet) and I just said "uhhhhh...he doesnt want to hear our message....". But sometimes it is like that!

That night we got assigned our trainees and now I am companions with Elder Reid! He is a funny guy, and so ready to teach and do some awesome work here in Aachen. I am so excited for this transfer and am looking forward to getting to work!

Miss y'all
