South Of The Border, Groovin, And Glücklich
Hallo liebe Leute!
An awesome week!
On Thursday I went on a split with Elder Carruthers in Frankfurt. We had a lesson with an American dude who is involved in his own sorta mission currently helping teach people about Christ which is really cool. He mostly wanted to learn more about what we believe. We met in a Mexican Restaurant, so needless to say, I was pretty excited, but my expectations were not high since we are in Germany. I ordered a plate with 4 soft tacos which were about the size of a slightly larger than average oreo with two spoonfuls of rice on the side, only for 14 bucks! And it tasted like German food with a Mexican name. Anyways, the lesson was incredible. As we testified to him that the Book of Mormon was true, and that if he read it and prayed about it God would give him an answer to confirm its truth, the Spirit was so strong, it was really cool. It was honestly strong enough that it even seemed to drain out the Mexican party music playing in the background.
On Friday the ward had a "Summer Ball" and at first I thought it was a wedding. The church may not be as big in Germany, but they sure know how to party (see the pictures attached). We Americans should take notes. We helped set up everything and prepare all the food and desserts, and then we may or may not have shown a couple of our dance moves for 5-10 minutes before we had to go home! So far one of the favorite parts of my mission is simply having the ability to help people and just finding ways to serve in ways like Jesus Christ would. Even if that means cutting 200 pieces of cake and filling up 50 pitchers with water!
We traveled a total of an hour on Saturday to meet with our friends Višja and Lena from Croatia only to find out that Lena was in the middle of running out the door to catch a plane to Croatia! We decided to still say a prayer with them, which was really powerful. Sometimes all it takes is short, yet heartfelt prayer to invite the Spirit.
On Sunday we visited and had dinner with the stake president's family, the Metzners. He is German, and she is from Utah, so everyone in the house speaks German and English. They are such an awesome family, and their kids are the best! Plus I finally found someone who plays saxophone! (Their 17yr old boy).
Transfers also happened! Elder Worthington got transferred to Wiesbaden for his last transfer of the mission, and Elder Urban is my new companion!
On Tuesday I was at the train station in Frankfurt all day running around making sure people got on their trains and helping people with bags, and I found out that Elder Urban has covid right now so my companion for the next week or so is Elder Stevens! What a crazy time we are living in.
I'm loving the mission yall. It's hard. It's really hard. But it has changed my life so much already, and I am looking forward to what the future brings. I have come to learn about and love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have seen people's lives change for the better as they have begun to read in the Book of Mormon and strive to become more like Jesus Christ. I have so much more love for the people around me, even those who don't like me (and I'm really really humble too). Yes I might be growing some gray hairs, but I have never been happier. (P.s. Glücklich is the word for happy in German)
Love yall, miss yall, and talk to you next week.
