Louisiana Chicken, Soy Una Manzana, And How To Start A Company
Hallo meine liebe Leute!!!
Great week number #293434394
We have been meeting with Etienne recently in the evening to read in the Book of Mormon together. He has been baptized for a couple years, and is half German half american, loves america, plays american football here in Germany, and has a total Louisiana country accent when speaking English, but a totally German accent when speaking German. It is trippy to hear. Anyways it is always fun calling with him to read in the scriptures. He normally starts off with 20 minutes about how he likes to barbecue his chicken, and then we are able to read in the scriptures, but it is always an incredible time, and he always points out the most beautiful plain truths of the Book of Mormon and has the most incredible insights.
On Friday we helped people from the Spanish group set up for a wedding (and I was asked to play some piano at the wedding). I am not sure how we always get roped into setting up for all these weddings and huge events in our church building, but I am always happy to serve (as long as you don't make us do all of it.....). It was a lot of fun, and I must say, I am a fan of the Latino culture. They don't get stressed about everything and they are much more optimistic! I have never seen any of the Spanish members here in Darmstadt without the biggest smile! The wedding was supposed to start at 4, and at 4:45, there were still tons of people just casually strolling up to the church without a worry in the world (including the guy who was performing the ceremony). I have been working on my Spanish lately, so now I know how to say "I need water", "I would like a pill", "You are an apple", and "I am a quarter Mexican ''. 1% progress every day!
We also did a fast as a mission this week for our friends of the church. It is interesting how before my mission, I dreaded fasting. It is still not necessarily something I am always eager to do (what can I say, I love food!), but I have grown to learn the importance and value of it. While fasting the other day, we found about 3 people who would be interested in learning more about Jesus Christ! It had been really hard finding people who are interested, so we had been working hard without seeing much success. But the other day, missionaries in a bordering area sent us the numbers of at least 12 people who are possibly interested and live in our area! What a miracle!
We met with our friend Mohammed yesterday, which is always an adventure. He is muslim, from Austrailia, and is just an overall really cool guy. He is pretty successful and started a nonprofit to build an entire orphanage-academy-tradeschool-complex in Uganda for 600 kids. We still aren't sure how much interest he really has, but he said he wanted to read the Book of Mormon and come to church on Sunday, so we will see what happens! He is really an awesome guy, but just tends to get off topic for 2 hours. Not a big deal, but now I know a lot about how to start a company.
Once again for any of you who aren't members of the Church of Jesus Christ and are sometimes confused about what I am talking about or why I sometimes sound crazy. Yall are probably thinking, "what the heck is he talking about "fasting" for people, or trying to find people who are "interested", like is he selling something?"
Well not exactly. I tell people on the street it every day, but here I can tell you guys too. The only reason I am in Germany standing out in every bus, train, and main square wearing a white shirt and a name tag, is because I am trying to share something that I know for a fact has helped me and can help other people too. Religion does not go out of style, and neither does Jesus Christ, because He is there to help anyone and everyone, now and forever. That is the message I am trying to share. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps all of us become as happy as we can be, not only in this life, but in the next one too. I know that God is real without doubt because I constantly see his hand in miracles happening around me and I feel his comfort on a daily basis.
Anywhooooo, thanks for listening to the TEDTalk from Landon. I love y'all!
talk to ya next week.
