Pioneers, Lego-Fever, And The Seven Dwarves

Hallo alle!

Frohe Weihnachten!

This week was awesome!

On Saturday/Heilig Abend (Christmas Eve), we had a french toast breakfast with our district and the Hahns. Afterwards we sang at the Christmas Market, and I got to play my little pocket saxophone/clarinet/recorder thing. It was a lot of fun, a couple people were interested in why we were doing it and what church we represent, which was cool.

That evening we went over to the Westermann families and I got to experience a real German Christmas Eve. We all sang Christmas songs and then the kids got sent to their rooms while the presents were put under the tree. The lights got dimmed and the lights on the Christmas tree turned on, and when the mom rang the bell, the kids came running out and immediately started tearing open their presents. We gave them American candy canes and two little lego missionaries and they were pretty excited. Elijiah (the boy) got a big lego NASA rocket and a big part of me just wanted to stay the whole night and build it with him. I miss Legos! No one is ever too old for them! Afterwards all of the subways and most of the buses were canceled since it was Christmas eve, so we spent an hour with the Hahns (the senior couple missionaries) searching for a way home. I felt like the Pioneers. Back in the old days when people actually had to WALK places. Unbelievable.

On Sunday we (all the missionaries) sang a musical number (Silent night) in Sacrament meeting. For Lunch, Dinner, and every other meal for the rest of the week, we went over to the Pelc families. I had just recovered from the last time we went over, and this time there was even MORE food. It all tasted amazing, but my stomach is gonna need to take a break for a little while.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we were on exchanges with the Hagen Elders in Hagen, so I got to see some new scenery. I was with Elder Covington, and it was a lot of fun. We found someone pretty interested in learning more, and I got another Weihnachtsmarkt mug to add to my collection! Eight and counting... How am I gonna get them all home? Don't ask.

Today we visited the German Mining Museum in Bochum. It was pretty cool! They even take you down into a replica of the mines and I really felt like one of the seven dwarves.

This week during Christmas, I have dedicated all of my studies to just learning more about Jesus Christ. It is crazy how much your testimony of Him and His Gospel can grow when you truly focus on Him and only Him. Even in just one week I can say that I know Christ better and love Him even more. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is exactly what enables us to come closer to Him. As we seek to change and become better, we WILL see His hand in our lives.

Anyways that's all for this week. I hope you all had an amazing Christmas! And I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Tschüss!

Elder Allan (Landon)
