Come Unto Jesus
Hallo Leute!
The weeks just keep getting better!
We had a lesson this week with a friend of ours, Andreas, who is already Christian and was so excited to meet with us. We met him in the miracle park that I talked about before. He sat down with him and he had so many questions. He told us about his story of how he came to find Jesus Christ. He went from heroin addict, alcoholic, and gambler to a devoted husband and follower of Jesus Christ. He is a testament to me that the Atonement of Jesus Christ works for everyone. No matter how far you have gone, you are never out of reach of the redeeming power of the Atonement. All you have to do is be willing to give Jesus Christ a chance, come unto Him, and you will be given the strength you need to overcome any challenge.
Yesterday evening we had a lesson with our friend Markus and his daughter Lily. The Spirit was so strong as Markus told us that he has been searching for such a long time for a faith that combines the good parts of every church and religion into one. He bore his testimony to us how he knows that the Book of Mormon is truly from God. Afterwards he accepted our invitation to be baptized and he is so excited! His daughter Lily wants to as well, but she has to wait a couple years (German laws and parental permission from both parents, etc.).
I had a very spiritual experience this week as I was listening to hymns. The song "Come Unto Jesus" hit me really hard.
Come unto Jesus, ye heavy laden,
Careworn and fainting, by sin oppressed.
He’ll safely guide you unto that haven
Where all who trust him may rest.
Come unto Jesus; He’ll ever heed you,
Though in the darkness you’ve gone astray.
His love will find you and gently lead you
From darkest night into day.
Come unto Jesus; He’ll surely hear you,
If you in meekness plead for his love.
Oh, know you not that angels are near you
From brightest mansions above?
Come unto Jesus from ev’ry nation,
From ev’ry land and isle of the sea.
Unto the high and lowly in station,
Ever he calls, “Come to me.”
I have personally seen the effects of "coming unto Jesus". Not just in the lives of people I meet, like Andreas and Markus, but also in my own life. Like it says in Matthew 11:28-30, I have found rest from my burdens as I have turned to Jesus and spent more time with him in prayer, service to others, going to church, and reading the scriptures. I have been filled with peace, and I have never been happier in my entire life than I am now.
Jesus will heed you, though in darkness you've gone astray. His love will find you and gently lead you, from darkest night into day.
I wouldn't say that I have had it that hard in life. I am grateful to God for that. But even in just those past months, I have seen my darkest nights turn into day. I have seen the darkest nights of other missionaries turn to day. I have seen the darkest nights of those I meet and teach turn to day. What those all have in common is that they decided to get to know Jesus Christ and his sacrifice just a little bit more.
Anyways I love you all and I hope you have the best week of your life!
Bis nächstes mal,
Elder Allan (Lando)
